Electric Vehicle Charging in the UAE

The authority of Dubai Electricity & Water board has introduced EV Green Charger. This is an excellent  initiative toward the vision of sustainable transport in Dubai. The main directive of this move is to get the emirate’s target of reducing carbon emissions. These initiatives of environmentally friendly e-cars in Dubai and across the UAE have started to bring positive results.

Green initiatives in Dubai have seen the introduction of many EV charging stations across the emirates. The electric vehicle charging stations are provided in petrol stations, airports, residential complexes, government offices, shopping malls, clinics and other places.

Types of Charging Stations

There are four types of charging stations throughout the city which are launched by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority.

  1. Fast Charger

  2. Public Charger

  3. Ultra-fast charger

  4. Wall box charger

  1. Fast Charger

The fast chargers provide 80 percent charge in a span of twenty to forty-five minutes and this depends on the battery and car type. Fast chargers are available in petrol stations throughout Dubai.

  1. Public Charger

With a charging capacity of 2 to 4 hours public charging points are available at all major public places. The charging capacity will depend on the battery type and car.

  1. Ultra-fast charger

The ‘Ultra-fast charging facility’ was introduced at Expo 2020. This is the first ‘Ultra Fast EV Green charger’ and it is available at ENOC station.

  1. Wall box Charger

A full charge of the ‘wall box charger’ will take 2 to 4 hours. The charging capacity will depend on the type of car and battery capacity.

The car owners can use these charging points using a green charger card which is issued by the authorities. You can register for the card service on the DEWA app or the website. Once you have successfully registered you will receive your card in 3 working days.
